Our Story
Kaneeza Lafir is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, originally from Sri Lanka. She began her psychology journey Madras (now Chennai), South India, where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with foundational training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Dr. Lafir obtained her PsyD in clinical psychology from Biola University's Rosemead School of Psychology in Southern California, where she developed a deep interest in Object Relations Theory and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. 'After completing her predoctoral internship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and postdoctoral training at the Biola Counseling Center, she became an adjunct faculty member at Rosemead, passionately supervising graduate students. Following a 12-year tenure at Rosemead, she shifted her focus to psychoanalysis and private practice. Once licensed, Dr. Lafir took on the of clinical supervisor at a nonprofit counseling organization in South County and served as their Director of Clinical Training, overseeing various trainees while managing her private practice and pursuing additional doctoral degrees in Psychoanalysis. In 2015, she was invited by Dr. Larry Kuhn, a former supervisee, to help establish a for-profit counseling center where she served as both a clinical psychologist and clinical director, while also consulting in the corporate sector. In early 2017, Dr. Lafir became the owner of this center, now known as Prepare to Change Counseling, and later founded its nonprofit branch.
